"Anna Komnene"
The "Anna Komnene" digital collection features archaeological sites, monuments and building complexes from all periods of Byzantine history and from all the major centres of the Byzantine world. In Greece, it covers sites in the regions of Attica, Thessaloniki and Mystra, and elsewhere in regions of Armenia, Algeria, FYROM, Georgia, Jordan, Cyprus, Romania, Russia, Serbia and Tunisia – highlighting the wide sphere of influence of Byzantine culture both in the Mediterranean area and its surrounding regions and in other parts of the continents of Europe, Asia and Africa. The common point of reference linking all these historic sites and buildings is their artistic quality (in terms of architecture and decoration). Most of them are included in the UNESCO world heritage list. The various types and styles of building represent practically every phase in Byzantine architectural history, while their distribution across the whole area of Byzantine influence and their styles of decoration (painting, etc.) offer examples of some of the most sublime moments in Byzantine art.

Asterios Koukoudis Collection
The photographic material of the archive emanates from various sources. The main subject of the collection is Greek Vlachs, whereas an important part includes the unknown -until recently- artistic creations of brothers Manakia, the photographers who were the pioneers of the cinema in the Balkans. The collection depicts scenes from the late 19th and the early of the 20th century; included are photographs of typical patters of settlements and Vlah population around 1900. Considering the collection as a total, helps reversing several stereotypical theories as well as understanding the various cultural, social and economic identities of the Vlach populations.
