Collections d'arts asiatiques léguées en 1896 par le financier Henri Cernuschi (1820 - 1896), banquier d'origine milanaise qui lègue aussi son hôtel particulier à la Ville de Paris. Ce musée ouvert au public en 1898, va, sous la direction d' Henri d' Ardenne de Tizac, conservateur de 1905 à 1933 se spécialiser dans l' archéologie chinoise.
